چکیده

Flagellar Propulsion The image representing article 2200210, Magdanz, Khalil and co-workers show a collinear bundle under the scanning electron microscope. consists of two sperm cells with opposite orientations. In presence adhesive molecules on heads, assemble into by head-to-head attachment. This unique configuration bundles allows us to understand swimming behavior when against time-periodic force.

The hydrodynamics of flagellar propulsion: helical waves

The swimming of a micro-organism by the propagation of helical waves on a long slender flagellum is analysed. The model developed by Higdon (1979) is used to study the motion of an organism with a spherical cell body (radius A ) propelled by a cylindrical flagellum (radius a, length L). The average swimming speed and power consumption are calculated for helical waves (amplitude a, wavenumber k)...

O-11: Dynamics of Flagellar Force Generated by A Hyperactivated Spermatozoon

Background: To clarify the mechanism of sperm penetration through the zona pellucida, the flagellar force generated by a hyperactivated spermatozoon was evaluated using the resistive force theory applied to the hyperactivated flagellar waves that were obtained from the mammalian spermatozoa. Materials and Methods: The hydrodynamic calculation of the flagellar force of the activated (non-hyperac...

C/A dynein isolated from sea urchin sperm flagellar axonemes. Enzymatic properties and interaction with microtubules.

C/A dynein is a novel dynein isolated from sea urchin sperm flagellar axonemes. It is composed of C and A heavy chains and some additional lower molecular mass polypeptide chains. The characterization of ATPase activity and the interaction of this dynein with microtubules polymerized from calf brain tubulin were investigated in this study. The ATPase activity of C/A dynein (0.3-0.4 mumol Pi/min...

Polar features in the flagellar propulsion of E. coli bacteria.

E. coli bacteria swim following a run and tumble pattern. In the run state all flagella join in a single helical bundle that propels the cell body along approximately straight paths. When one or more flagellar motors reverse direction the bundle unwinds and the cell randomizes its orientation. This basic picture represents an idealization of a much more complex dynamical problem. Although it ha...

Magnetic Propulsion of Microswimmers with DNA-Based Flagellar Bundles

We show that DNA-based self-assembly can serve as a general and flexible tool to construct artificial flagella of several micrometers in length and only tens of nanometers in diameter. By attaching the DNA flagella to biocompatible magnetic microparticles, we provide a proof of concept demonstration of hybrid structures that, when rotated in an external magnetic field, propel by means of a flag...
